4x4 vehicle volunteers

When would 4×4 vehicle volunteers be used?

When emergency situations arise where help is needed in conditions fit only for 4-wheel driving.

The voluntary members of both the Leicestershire Owner and Driver Emergency Response Service (LOADERS) and the Rutland Owner and Driver Emergency Response Service (ROADERS)  own 4×4 vehicles. They volunteer to help the times when only a 4×4 vehicle can reach locations that other vehicles cannot. The emergency management section of Leicestershire County Council and Rutland County Council maintain a list of volunteers.

When have LOADERS/ROADERS been called?

Some of the volunteers have been called during times of heavy snow falls. Where they have helped to deliver hot meals to vulnerable people within the community. Council’s contracted meals on wheels provider, who deliver the hot meals, were having problems in getting their vehicles to reach outlying areas cut off by the snow and ice.
