RAYNET

RAYNET, The Radio Amateurs’ Emergency Network is the UK’s national voluntary communications service provided for the community by licensed radio amateurs.

RAYNET offers a flexible communication facility which can be adapted to suit the requirements of an emergency.

What do RAYNET operators do?

Amateur Radio operators have access to a wide range of radio bands, operating modes and equipment which allows RAYNET to offer a unique range of emergency communication services to their user services.

They are regarded as a professional support organisation by both the statutory and volunteer emergency service organisations.

All RAYNET groups work together both within geographical areas and across counties.

As part of the service they provide, they may be asked to:

  1. provide communications when they do not exist or have failed
  2. provide temporary additional channels to support links which have become overloaded
  3. work alongside key officers who may not have direct communications
