During an emergency

Go In, Stay In, Tune InThe advice for most emergencies is: Go In, Stay In, Tune In.

  • go indoors unless there is an obvious risk to the property. Close doors and windows and shut down ventilation systems if it is safe to do so
  • stay indoors until you know more about the situation and the appropriate action you need to take to protect yourself further
  • tune in to a local radio station for updates about the emergency (lick here for local radio stations Tune In)

Additional advice is:

  • alert the emergency services by dialling 999 and follow their advice
  • do not put yourself or others in danger
  • check for injuries to yourself and others, always attend to yourself first
  • be aware of any elderly or vulnerable neighbours who may need your help
  • if advised to do so, be prepared to evacuate and follow instructions given

The emergency services may ask you to:
