During an emergency
The advice for most emergencies is: Go In, Stay In, Tune In.
- go indoors unless there is an obvious risk to the property. Close doors and windows and shut down ventilation systems if it is safe to do so
- stay indoors until you know more about the situation and the appropriate action you need to take to protect yourself further
- tune in to a local radio station for updates about the emergency (lick here for local radio stations Tune In)
Additional advice is:
- alert the emergency services by dialling 999 and follow their advice
- do not put yourself or others in danger
- check for injuries to yourself and others, always attend to yourself first
- be aware of any elderly or vulnerable neighbours who may need your help
- if advised to do so, be prepared to evacuate and follow instructions given
The emergency services may ask you to:
Evacuate your home as it may not be safe for you to be there.
Go to an emergency centre which is a place of support and refuge for those involved in an emergency.
