During an emergency

All emergencies are by definition unexpected, and every major incident will be uniquely different from all previous emergencies.

In times of an emergency the work that is undertaken before an emergency all play a part in the response. This response includes letting you know about the situation and guidance on what to do.

Management of an emergency

The management of the response to any emergency will follow the following structure:

Operational (also known as bronze)
Operational is about managing the location of the incident where tasks are carried out to resolve the emergency safely and quickly.

Tactical (also known as silver)
The tactical group co-ordinate the overall response. They carry out and follow the policy and guidelines from the strategic group, including setting the priorities in getting and distributing resources.

Strategic (also known as gold)
The strategic group directs the overall multi-agency response and set the policy and strategic framework.

Roles and responsibilities

Each responding organisation have different roles and responsibilities that they carry out to help conclude the emergency and reduce the impact on the public.
